Darkness is everywhere....



One of my anticipated movie of the year - STAR TREK:  INTO DARKNESS. what can I say, the movie didn't let me down. The plot this time is more on 'bro-mance' between our kapitan Kirk and his 1st command  Mr. Spock helping each other tackling their weakness. Really give something fresh after a lot of movie been focusing on baseless romance between main actor and actress. (not that I'm gay or anything)
The action and visual effect were spectacular (but not as an eye candy like avatar though). director manage to add in pinches of humor here and there to make the movie a bit lighter. anyway, one of the must watch movie of the year...

a superb movie.. if i may add one of the best 'magic show' movie I've ever seen. (before this I thought 'The Prestige' was great) I can assure you that you will be glued to your seat from start till finish as you don't want to miss anything. great acting, great plot, great visual effect, awesome actors.. Don't want to spoil the movie so I ain't giving any synopsis this time. Go and enjoy...

Lari jangan tak lari...


Just watch this movie last night. Kinda entertaining at some level. Kudos to ahmad idham and co. for producing a considerably good action movie (taraf malaysia) even though there are some questionable plot in the movie. It is a movie with a straight-forward story line with no twisted plots. 

Synopsis: Khaliff (aaron aziz) is a retired contract soldier. When he came back home he found that his dad was killed by someone and his kid-sister went missing. So from there, the whole story basically showed how strong and athletic a raged malaysian soldier can be. Added in also some muay thai and other martial arts moves to spice up the movie. 

I notice that most of the gangster are quite resilient as Khaliff need to pound them for quite some time before they finally tap out. (penangan tongkat ali la tu). the shooting scene towards the end can be improve more. It's a bit illogical for all of the thai's mafia to be very short-sighted that I think the star wars storm troopers would be having a field day fighting them (they are a lousy shooter too if you don't know). they can't even shoot 1 big-sized guy at a short distance (I'm guessing less than 20 meters apart) and they are using a freaking uzi and machine gun!! takpe la, at least one of the longest shooting scene in malay movie that i've seen so far. 

dLan: enjoyed the movie but would not recommend to hardcore action movie-goers. I'm gonna give it a 6.5/10 star rating for the good effort. could have been better though...

Acidic VS Alkaline Food

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!!

That would be the main message of this article for today. Quite a while back, I've attended a few talk and seminars on health and did my own study and research on food - Yes, food! And no it's not about learning on how to cook. So why did I bother to go for the seminars and did all the research? Because - you are what you eat!! 
So, I want to know does the food I'm taking is good for me or bad for me? Unsurprisingly enough, most of the food that all of us consumes are not really good for our body. I can bet that most of us  
1. don't take 5 servings of FRESH vegetable/fruits daily
2. don't drink more than 2 liters of purified clean water daily
3. is not leading a very stress free life..
4. don't take any supplementation
5. love to eat fast-food/processed food over fresh vegetables/fruits
6. like to waste their money and life over a pack of cigarette (yes, including those passive smokers)
7. don't exercise more than 150 minutes a week if not at all
(heck, I used to be guilty as charged for most of them. (note the word used there )


why is it important to at least done some if not all of what I mentioned earlier? 
All of that is to make sure that our body is always in a state of slightly alkaline. Our bodies pH should supposedly be well maintained at a pH of 7.35-7.45 (note that narrow range) for those who didn't know about pH it ranges from 0-14 where 0 is highly acidic, 14 is highly alkaline and 7 is neutral.

why should our body be in a slightly alkaline state? why not slightly acidic or neutral? 
Hmm.. tough question there but the answers are pretty much simple. Well, at a pH of 7.35-7.45, even though according to pH chart it is slightly alkaline our body perceive that range as neutral. So, anything less than 7.35 is acidic and anything more than 7.45 is alkaline. In a nutshell, our body (particularly cells) need to have an environment at the pH of 7.35-7.45 to function properly. At this pH level, all the amino acids (building block for proteins) would be able to maintain their specific geometric 3-D shape to function effectively and by the tiniest changes in the blood pH it can alter the shape thus render it to malfunction

So, what would happened if our body pH drop less than 7.35?
It will basically cause all these problem - decreasing body's ability to absorb minerals and nutrients, reduce the effectiveness of the cell in producing energy, decrease it's ability to repair damaged cells thus make it susceptible in formation of abnormal or cancer cells, decrease it's ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumors cells thrive happily and impaired our immunity function thus making us more susceptible to fatigue and illness. FYI, a blood pH of less than 7 is very dangerous and can be considered as an emergency since it can induce coma, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest and death!! 


So, how does our body maintained pH at 7.35-7.45 all the time?
Our body have 3 major mechanism that helps to maintain the pH at the desirable range for an optimum functioning. the 3 mechanisms are:
     1. Buffer systems
               protein buffer system
               carbonic acid-bicarbonate buffer system
               phosphate buffer system
     2. exhalation of carbon dioxide
     3. elimination of hydrogen ions via kidney

(You can googled and read about the mentioned mechanism yourself if you want to) The mechanisms mentioned above basically used the available organic minerals in our body to work. Organic minerals can only be found in fresh vegetables/fruits and certain certified organic supplements. If you don't take those vegetables/fruits which is also an alkalizing food then maintenance mechanism might be resort to taking minerals from the storage depot - bones and muscles; which will only cause osteoporosis (calcium and phosphate) or kidney stones. Also, like I just mentioned, there will also be conditions where these balancing mechanism will be overused or overtaxed for instance like stress, exercise or getting sick -  which will then results in the what I mentioned earlier or even worse, multiple negative health events. 

as you can see, fresh vegetables and fruits are on the alkaline side where by your favourite foods are on the acidic side


Can we monitor our body pH daily?
Well we can. But indirectly unless you are willing to be poke for blood everyday. Plus it is more cost efficient and can be done at home. What we need to do is go to your nearest pharmacy and get a bottle of pH tester. Then, pull out a stick from the bottle and pee on the stick - of course you better do it in your bathroom ok!! Don't want to show your private part in public right? If the urine is acidic ( which most of us are) then it means that your body is acidic and the mechanisms mentioned earlier had to work extra to excrete the acid (hydrogen ions) from the body via urine. Thus the acidic urine. The urine should normally be in a slightly alkaline state.

How can we help our body to maintain the desirable pH range?
Easy.. Eat more fresh vegetables/fruits!!! cut down on meat and poultry. Cut down, not stop ok.. Below are an excerpt from a website that mentioned a long list of alkalizing and acidic food. Don't have to follow them strictly though..

Back from my Sabbatical Leave...

Hi, to those who's been following this blog (I know not many but I'm affirming myself that I will have thousands and thousands of people following my blog soon) - I'm BACK!!!
Not that I've been somewhere in the past few months. It's just that I finally manage to apprehend the Mr. Mediocrity in me. So, here I am back in action now. A lot of things had happened in the past few months. will definitely share it here. From now on, my blog will be focusing on 3 major aspect of many people's lives - being HEALTHY, WEALTHY and WISE!!

Alhamdulillah.... Most precious doa given to mankind

From my humble opinion, the phrase "Alhamdulillah" (or its meaning in English praise to God Al-Mighty) is one of the most beautiful doa that been blessed by Allah to his servant - short, sweet and simple.

A lot of people neglect this phrase and tend to forget about it including me. However, a brief encounter with a Lebanese guy, Fadi, during one of my outing had enlightened and reminded myself how ungrateful I've been to Allah be it consciously or unconsciously. While we were chatting and having our 'air kosong tarik' (not being stingy but being health conscious) he asked the crowd (about 5 of us) a question,
" My brothers, when do you think human will remember God? "
All of us unanimously answered when they fall into perils. Tak kira Islam ke, Kristian ke, Buddha ke, atheis ke, everyone will  mostly pray  to their own respective God for help or at least think thought of a higher power when they are in peril. Nothing wrong with that since it is part of human nature. However, the beauty in Islam is that we are supposed to always remember Allah ALL THE TIME - especially during our good times. Tapi most of us conveniently forget to be grateful to Allah when we are blessed with prosperity. Insyallah, by instilling the habit of saying Alhamdulillah all the time in due time we will not forget Allah. Also Allah will blessed us with more prosperity and rezeki. 

I would like to end this with a short but meaningful story
" There was a king and his wazir (advisor) in a kingdom. They were close and the king will always go to him to complaint about his trouble and the wazir would reply with Alhamdulillah. One day, the king went out for his hunting game and while hunting he accidentally blow one of his fingers off. In pain and grief he told the wazir about it and as predicted his reply is Alhamdulillah. Being taken aback, the king ordered the wazir to be sent to prison and the wazir just said Alhamdulillah causing the king to get more angry.
After a year, the king went out for his hunting game again. This time, another mishap happen where his whole troop got caught by a cannibal tribe in the jungle. Since he is the only survivor, the cannibal decide to sacrifice him to their God. As he was tied up to the pole and about to be thrown into the boiling pot, the chief of the tribe ask the 'chef' to examine the king as they need a sacrifice that is without defect and much to their dismay, the 'chef' noticed that the king had lost a finger. Thus he was released and ask to go home. The king then run all the way back to his castle never looking back. Once he reached his castle the first thing he did was to go to the prison to meet with the wazir and told him about the ordeal. 
' Wazir, now I know why you said Alhamdulillah when I lost my finger a year ago. My life is spared because I lost my finger!! But I still don't understand why you said Alhamdulillah when you were sent to prison'
' My dear king, if you didn't sent me to prison a year ago, I would have been the sacrificed by the cannibal today'...

Melia & Wan: And they live happily ever after

Selamat pengantin baru!!! 

Tema arini serba biru. abis pekan kodiang diwarnai dgn warna biru langit (Yes, I tend to exaggerate a bit - ok... a lot)
menu consist of ayam percik, kari daging, kurma daging n pajeri nanas. Fuih... sedap giler. Dah lama x makan kenduri kawin ala royong yg sedap gini.
Overall, I think it's a successful event. Even the weather is on our side today. Pak long and mak long can take a long breather tonight.
Tu Melia and Wan - selamat pengantin baru!! Semoga kekal bahagia ke akhir hayat.
